Abstract

Outside the museums and interacting with public space, the fine arts become a preferential subject to mediate the urban experience. Taking this experience into consideration, this paper presents an analysis of two art interventions carried out by Gordon Matta-Clark at the piers of New York City in the 1970's.
Setting the categories of space and landscape as theoretical tools. The mobilization of urban space by the fine arts will be considered up from the idea of “expanded field”, as proposed by Rosalind Krauss when referring to a historical moment in which the borders within the fine arts had been blurred in a series of new hybrid spatial acts.
