Author Biographies

Luís Miguel Loureiro, Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Sociedade, Instituto de Ciências Sociais, Universidade do Minho, Braga, Portugal

Luís Miguel Loureiro has a PhD in communication sciences, specialising in sociology of communication and information from the University of Minho in 2012. He graduated in biochemistry from the University of Coimbra in 1992. He was a journalist at RTP for 24 years, having been part, between 2015 and 2021, of the team of the investigative journalism programme Sexta às 9 (Friday at 9) and produced several major reports and documentaries. Between 2012 and 2021 he was professor at Porto Lusófona University, where he directed the degree in communication sciences and the master in communication networks and technologies. He was also a member of the teaching staff of the PhD in communication studies for development and in media art. He was, between 2008 and 2013, a researcher at Communication and Society Research Centre, having been connected to Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies between 2013 and 2021. He has received three journalism awards, one academic merit award and one cultural merit award. He researches in the areas of communication sciences, journalism, media sociology, digital networks, activism and public mobilizations and visual culture.

Juan Francisco Gutiérrez Lozano is a senior lecturer at Universidad de Málaga (Spain), where he is deputy vice-chancellor of communication since 2017. He has been main researcher on several projects about Spanish and Andalusian television. During 2016-2022 he was president of the European Communication Research and Education Association television studies section, director of the production and media content section of the Spanish Association of Communication Research, and vice-president of the Spanish Association of Communication Historians and the editorial board of VIEW.
