Call for papers | Visual Culture and Social Change (No. 8) | Closed

2021-09-21

Images play a fundamental role in social, political and cultural upheavals. The visual arts can unleash mindsets and reshape worldviews as forms of action, political expression and identity. They can be used to transform communities and societies.

This thematic section of Vista is dedicated to understanding the arts in their broadest sense, looking at artistic manifestations that challenge assumptions and the status quo, reshape mindsets and promote the improvement of social systems.

We invite the academic community to submit proposals that encompass critical dialogues on visual arts and the public, on the workings of the arts at their intersection with creativity, justice, imagination and metamorphosis. We encourage proposals for papers based on scientific research work and that address the following themes: cultures, visual arts and human rights; visual arts as activism; visual culture, community, resistance and liberation; artists as agents of social change; visual arts and education.
